Biblioteca de Artes y Museografía del Museo Cabañas

The Biblioteca de Artes y Museografía del Museo Cabañas [Arts and Museography Library in Museo Cabañas] is found in the Sacristía Norte Room, attached to Capilla Mayor. Our library is only for consultation, seeking to assist researchers, professors, students, and the general public, interested in the study of arts and museology. It includes bibliography on Philosophy, Theory of Art and Art History, dictionaries and encyclopedias, museum catalogs, galleries and art collections, as well as copies on Museology, artwork conservation and restoration, and patrimonial landmarks. Within its collection, copies related to styles, schools and artistic movements in different disciplines can be found. Monographies on national and international plastic artists, and various topics related to arts and culture in periodical publications, such as the magazines México en el Arte, Artes de México, Arte RAMA, and Colección Pinacoteca de los Genios, among others, may also be consulted. Here is preserved an important collection on books about Mexican painter, José Clemente Orozco, originally from Jalisco: titles on his artistic production —mural painting, easel painting, drawing, graphic artwork, and a study on his work notebooks, developed by himself from 1931 to 1934, organized and prefaced by Raquel Tibol. Here is kept as well the artist’s autobiography, and anthologies and come essays written by renowned art critics like Luis Cardoza y Aragón, Justino Fernández, Alma Reed, Raquel Tibol, and José Guadalupe Zuno, among others.
